Invented in 1941 by Dr. Peter Schlumbohm, PhD, to deliver coffee with the purest flavor, the simple CHEMEX® Coffeemaker design has remained unchanged for 70 years and counting. Made from non-porous, borosilicate glass, this Eight Cup Classic Series Coffeemaker easily brews coffee without imparting any flavors of its own when used with the scientifically designed, patented CHEMEX® Bonded Filters. Timeless and elegant with a concave glass body fastened with a polished wood collar and leather tie, it’s truly a work of art, deserving of its place on permanent display at MOMA NY and other fine museums.
How to Brew
For best heat retention, preheat press body by rinsing with hot water first.
Grind coffee to medium coarse ground.
Open a CHEMEX® Bonded Coffee Filter into a cone shape so that one side of the cone has three layers.
Place it into the top of the CHEMEX® brewer with the thick (three-layer) portion covering the pouring spout.
Put one rounded tablespoon of ground coffee for every 5 fl oz cup into the filter cone. Bring water to a boil, remove from heat.
Pour a small amount to wet the coffee grounds and wait for about 30 seconds.
Slowly pour water over the grounds while keeping the water level well below the top of the CHEMEX®. Slowly pour the remaining water over the grounds, using a circular or back-and-forth motion to ensure an even soaking of the grounds.
Lift the filter with spent grounds out of the brewer and discard. Pour your freshly made coffee into your mug and indulge in the flavor.
Easy-to-use CHEMEX pour-over allows coffee to be covered and refrigerated for reheating without losing flavor.
Non-porous Borosilicate glass will not absorb odors or chemical residues.
